To qualify to join a University in Kenya you must have scored an average grade C at the Kenya certificate of Education examination. However, to join a public university is very competitive because there are very few openings. You must score a higher grade to be accepted. This year, the minimum grade for admission at the public universities is B of 64 points for women and 65 points for men.
Public universities are preferred because a student gets accommodation and funding for tuition from the government throughout the course. Private universities will admit students with grade C but their fees are very high. Public universities also have evening parallel programs that admit students with grade C but the fee is as high as that of private universities.
Commercial banks now have educational loans and any working person willing to join university can apply and will be deducted every month from his salary.
